I can feel spring, it is almost here. This is the time to get your veggie engines running and start that garden.
How are you doing on your fruit and vegetable garden?

To get an early start this year
my husband turned our patio into a three season greenhouse. Complete with a weather station and home made bird house.
We already have some veggies peeking through.
We have saved every plastic bucket and container we could get our hands on to use in our greenhouse. We get free horse manure from the local stables. Add a little potting soil and some sand and we have a decent and inexpensive planting medium.
A re-purposed truck bed liner makes a large planting area on the floor in one corner of the greenhouse. The spouse found it around the corner with a free sign on it. I rolled my eyes, but he did a fine job of converting it to a veggie box.
And I purchased a whirl - e - gig type thing from an old man selling hand made items on the back of a cart a few weeks ago. Maybe it will scare some birds out of the backyard.
We have a 77 foot by 15 foot area in the backyard we are converting to raised beds once we complete a 4 foot fence to keep the dogs out. My spouse bought a roto-tiller from our local ECO Store (really an off-site building that sells stuff dropped off at the dump that may still be servicable) for $15 and after another $20 in parts we have a great running machine to work on the backyard with.
We have started tomatoes, squash, peas, brussel sprouts, eggplant, and more I am sure I can't remember right now. We have planted 10 fruit trees in the backyard along the soon to be fence line for the garden. I can feel spring, great hope, less rain, sunshine, happiness.
What are your garden plans for 2010?
