Mary Josephine Ray, 114, died Sunday, March 7, 2010 in Westmoreland, NH.
Since September, Mary Ray was listed as the oldest living American and the second oldest living person in the world.
Her life spanned the election of 21 presidents. Women gained the right to vote during her lifetime.
Mary Josephine (Fabian) Ray was born May 17, 1895 in Prince Edward Island, Canada.
As of September 11, 2009, Mary was the second oldest living person in the world, only 7 days younger than the oldest, Kama Chinen, of Okinawa, Japan.
Mary was an avid Red Sox fan. On her 108th birthday, she went on a field trip to Fenway Park and watched the Red Sox play Toronto. She led the rendition of "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" that day. Later, she commented, "This was the best day of my life".
When someone has a "best day" at the age of 108, this says a lot about her character and love of life.
Mary Ray kept herself busy and her mind active by playing cards, following the Red Sox, singing songs, and participating in activities at the nursing home where she resided for the last 18 years. She had many friends.
The Keene Sentinel published a nice tribute to Mary Ray in the Monday edition.

Besides being born with great genes, it's clear that her attitude, zest for life, and her sense of humor added to her longevity.
Rest in peace, Mary Ray.
