TOKYO, JAPAN - April 1, 2010 - Famous magical girl Usagi Tsukino has officially declared her bid for President of the World in 2012.
The 20-year-old college student, who is also known as world-renowned heroine Sailor Moon, made this announcement today at an unofficial televised pep rally. This would make Tsukino the first female candidate for President of the World since the creation of the World Government (which is mostly modeled after the United States Government) back in November 2008.
"It's both very overwhelming and exciting," Tsukino said later today in an interview, with fiance Mamoru Chiba (also identified as famous counterpart Tuxedo Kamen) by her side. "Mamoru and I hope to move our precious planet in the right direction by ending war and promoting love and justice! Oh, and reinstate Pluto as a planet, of course!"
If Tsukino wins the election, then she will also become the first woman President of the World, and Chiba will become...
"First...uh...Gentleman?" he suggested.
The World House isn't the only aspect that he and his future wife are excited about, though. When asked about possible cabinet members, Tsukino stated, "I've already got that planned out. My closest friends, of course!"
The "closest friends" who she is talking about in particular are none other than the eight other main Sailor Soldiers, equally popular.
"Let's see," Tsukino cheerfully pondered. "I'll probably nominate Ami [Mizuno (Sailor Mercury)] as Secretary of Education, Rei [Hino (Sailor Mars)] as Secretary of Defense, Makoto [Kino (Sailor Jupiter)] as Secretary of Homeland Security..."
What about a possible running mate? "Gosh, that's a really tough one," she admitted. "Personally, I think that all the senshi would make terrific running mates. Maybe I won't have a vice-president if I get into office."
"...Sure, but if you had to choose one, then who would it be?" Chiba asked her.
After some minutes thinking, Tsukino answered, "Well, I want to run the world with the mind of a Sailor Soldier, focusing on what's right instead of what's politically popular. And the person who's had the mind of a Sailor Soldier longer than even I have is Minako [Aino [Sailor Venus or, another world-famous icon, Sailor V)]. She could make a great advisor when it comes to that aspect."
Even in Tsukino's early stages of her campaign, she and her fellow senshi have endured political scrutiny from both sides of the aisle. The majority of Democrats and Independents have very favorable opinions of what they have called the "Sailor Cabinet."
But the majority of Republicans have criticized the senshi for being too "liberal" and too "socialist" and claimed that a Sailor Administration would destroy world freedoms. In addition, many conservatives raised eyebrows and were outraged when Tsukino announced her possible appointment of two lesbian Sailors to the cabinet. The Sailors in question are Haruka Tenoh [Sailor Uranus] and Michiru Kaioh [Sailor Neptune].
"To all the people out there who are trashing us, we have only one thing to say: get a life," said Tenoh, when we asked she and Kaioh about their reactions.
"Apparently they must be from another planet," Kaioh sarcastically remarked.
However, the controversy, criticism, and even threats of violence have not stopped any of the Sailors, including Tsukino.
"Just because people disagree with other people does not make violence acceptable," she said. "To all the world citizens who want to cause harm and danger to others, in the name of the Moon, President Tsukino and the Sailor Administration will punish you!"
