I don't mean to offend, but think about what you go through. Think about the fact that you are fortunate to be on the internet, let alone reading this diary. Looking at this picture of this very unfortunate boy, sleeping under a bridge, it's hard not to reflect on what you think is being poor.
You see the people walking above?
Hurts doesn't it, poverty has a real face. Sometimes you wonder how we can live in a world so cruel. Everyday I ask myself, how humans can be so cruel to each other. Even on this website, in our own little community, we engage in stupid little tit for tats, with hide rates and uprates.
As if any of it mattered, seriously, why can't we all just get along? It shouldn't be too hard to do right? It seems like it is, even when we try to post diaries or comments calling for civility, we still jump at each others throats.
We're supposed to be a community of people who share the same goals, where we work to prevent situations like this kid is in. It's as if we really do forget that there are people right outside our houses, suffering without hope at all.
We live in a world where this kid here is collateral damage to Greed. I've diaried about that before, the effects of our own dark natures on ourselves. We really are a self destructive species, even when we know this we still careen down a path of no return. Our planet is dying because of us, we are dying because of us. Everyday it seems like there is no bright future for us, regardless of the President we now have.
The only thing we can do is change ourselves. It could be happening, with the way things have been going. Some of us really understand what it means to take care of your fellow neighbor, some of us could really not give a damn. It's that attitude that sets us back as a whole, we can never really be proud of who we are until we are able to end poverty.
It's really not that hard, but when you have leaders who are greedy, that's when the difficulty sets in. That's when you hear stories of layoffs, public schools losing funds, homelessness, deaths due to sicknesses, etc. This kid sleeping under the bridge is a victim of greed.
But there are other kids out there who are just as worse off as he is, which is painful to understand. Slavery is still here today, in the form of Capitalism gone astray. To increase profits, you can make kids work for 15 cents a day, for as long as you want and how you want. Some of these kids are whipped and beaten, some of them are murdered or die from exhaustion.
I don't mean to put a damper in your mood with this diary, if you are still reading. But the picture up at the top is something that needs to be shown to people. It would really tell you who they really are inside.
I can say for a fact that when I first viewed that picture, all the problems I thought I had were forgotten. Empathy can be a curse and a gift at the same time, but it helps you realize that what you may be going through isn't so bad.
That isn't meant to demean your troubles, but can you imagine being so young, with absolutely nothing at all, not even a place to sleep?
Is this the best we can do, as humans? I'm only 21 and I never forget about the fact that I could be under that bridge, or in a sweatshop, or dead due to modern warfare.
I'll see you all next time . . .
