From CNN:
Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-New York, said Democrats let too many health care reform "lies" go unchallenged.
"On the health care bill, we allow too many lies to get out there without rebuttal because we thought they were so obviously untrue. But we've learned our lesson," he said.
His solution: "The minute these things come out the mouths of some of our Republican colleagues, we rebut them, and we rebut them again and again."
I read this statement and let out a sigh of frustration. This is the democrats problem in a nutshell and always has been.
They place too much trust in the intellect and bull-detectors of the American people. Years ago, I remember hearing Biden say something similar - that the people are smarter and the truth will prevail over the lies.
Clue to the rest of the party. Take a piece out of the playbook of the Financial Reform trio: THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS "OBVIOUSLY UNTRUE."
The Republicans have mastered the art of obscuring the truth, and it doesn't take much to be a master when you've got an opposing party that stares blankly when one of them builds a house of lies.
Learn the art of branding and marketing - and if you are too stupid to do so, hire a marketing agency to do the work for you.
It's simple. Goebbels knew this. If you repeat a lie long enough, it becomes truth. We've got an easier task. Repeat after me:
IF YOU REPEAT THE TRUTH LONG ENOUGH, IT BECOMES THE TRUTH.
Problem is you gotta repeat it. And take the opposite party to task on the details. And not be afraid to ruffle feathers and insult your "friend" on the opposite side of the political spectrum. This isn't about you and him/her. It's about our system of government and our country's interests. Don't be like the Republican party which puts all lobbyists before the American people over and over and over again - and convinces some of us that it's the best thing for us to be reamed by the financial and healthcare lobby and, mmmmm, we gotta lick it up. It's so good. (well, the tea baggers are dumb enough to buy this hogwash - but their IQ's are double digits below the majority of us).
My frustration stems from the fact that it's taken some of them this long to come to this conclusion. Like they tend to do in the past, the democrats will soon forget this lesson, believe that the world is made of beautiful pink elephants and chocolate fairies and the truth will prevail against all naysayers.
I hope I'm wrong.
