More quotes from Eric Holder:
"I think that [Arizona's] law is an unfortunate one," he said. "I think that it is, I fear, subject to potential abuse. And I'm very concerned about the wedge that it could draw between communities that law enforcement is supposed to serve and those of us in law enforcement."
Napolitano added:
Napolitano told the Judiciary Committee members that the "passage of laws like [Arizona's] at the state level indicate the need to move forward with comprehensive immigration reform."
I'm glad to hear that Homeland Security and the Justice Department both consider this law to be a threat to good governance and good immigration law.
Truth is, that unless the US lets in lots of immigrants into the country in the next 20 years, Social Security will go broke. Our ratio of retired persons:working persons is going to be upset by the baby boomers retiring unless we allow a lot of immigration.
A side effect of this reality is that the GOP will be doomed if they continue their anti-immigrant policies even sooner than they would if the nation was isolated by a wall and we just had to wait for non-Caucasians to breed themselves into the majority. These anti-immigrant laws will push many new immigrants to vote democratic and thus erode the republican electorate sooner than would happen otherwise.
