The Chinese drywall problem is characterized by the presence of humidity causing the drywall to emit toxic gases that are also corrosive including hydrogen sulfide and sulfur dioxide. Our product can eliminate these gases from confined areas and minimize damage to wiring and plumbing. It is called Actinite™ and it works by simple chemistry to trap reactive gases in a satchel of proprietary food grade chemicals on a carbon support. The combination of convection and diffusion in a room is sufficient to allow for effectiveness in about half an hour with preferably two satchels in a larger room. The thought of people ripping out all of their drywall has me concerned that they won’t have the opportunity to try a simpler approach.
I realize this is primarily a forum for political discussion and not a venue to pitch products, but knowing the presence of many pootie lovers on this site, I have previously diaried this product as a way to deal with kitty litter smells, and gotten some useful feedback. There was mention in the comments about using it for hen houses and friends of ours are now using Actinite™ in their henhouse and will hopefully be giving us additional feedback soon. Knowing the chemistry involved I can state confidently that this is an easy solution to the problem of Chinese drywall. By using mildly reactive chemicals on a charcoal substrate I have succeeded in eliminating cat litter box odor for more than a month. The related chemistry of Chinese drywall suggests that a satchel or two in each room can minimize concentrations and make a house habitable. Whether it will be used successfully remains to be seen. My previous results seem to have been hindered by clogging filter paper and now that I have changed to cloth satchels the lifetime of the satchels is close to what is expected chemically.
Some have complained that I don’t provide experimental data and rigorous calculations to support my findings. Get over it. Smell testing is qualitative, but scientifically valid and easy and much simpler than trying to arrange a controlled test with expensive analyzers and a SMOG chamber. I am familiar with anosmia, the effect that causes smells to be undetected after continued exposure and know how to deal with it. I am arranging to do additional tests eventually, but for now, I am busy enough as it is, and I just want people to become aware of this option.
My hope is that a homeowner with Chinese drywall or a company or government agency that has to deal with the problem will contact Activated Light Technology Industries for help… www.activatedlight.com
Update: Contrary to popular opinion, no one has been 'cured' with snake oil or sold anything as a result of this diary. I realize that some people consider this diary as spam because it relates to an actual product (under development), but the possible notice that may occur seems worth the suffering of slings and arrows that I have often encountered at this site. I would suggest people try to be less quick to judge and acrimonious about things, but it comes with the territory.
Just had a 7.2 in Baja and no damage here or where I called in San Diego. They may need some help down south considering the cinder block construction often used in Mexico. Hopefully an isolated incident.
