Karzai Threatens to Join the Taliban
Ah, lunchtime reading, I try to keep it light to avoid indigestion, but I ran across this article, and I fear I will be reaching for the Pepto Bismol all afternoon.
Follow me over the fold to see why.
%#@!%(*^% No, wait, %^#*(!%p)0f!@@@!!!!!
How much more of this do we have to take?
I was willing to give President Obama a pass on the Afghanistan surge. I don't like it - I hate it. I hate the fact that my country is killing innocent people in my name. I hate the hundreds of billions of tax $$ going down the drain. As a veteran, I hate that our military men and women are being killed, and their families sacrificing their well being all for the "war on terror" despite the fact that Major Burzak taught me well all those years ago in military science class that what's going on in Afghanistan is not properly called a war and the outcome is not something we can control. But, I had hoped the surge could at least bring some stability to the country, get the Pakistanis off their ass in helping to control the region, and get us to the quickest point where we could get out of there.
But this is not going to happen with Karzai. I don't know what game he is playing with this recent pronouncement, following on the heels of last week's jackassery, but I am fed up with it. His brother remains in place, the underground opium and now marijuana trade continues unabated and is likely funding elements of Karzai's administration, and the man is doing nothing to improve the lives of his fellow Afghanis. In the end, a military victory is meaningless unless it achieves its ultimate political end, and this is not happening. Whatever stability or help our military is achieving there, Karzai's regime flushes it down the sewer he has created.
End the surge now. Bring the troops home, and end the spending on this misbegotten conflict. We can achieve security for our country without fighting an endless war. Leave Afganistan to the Afghanis and maybe they will make something of their country with our non-military aid, but no more lives lost to support the Karzai fraud.
I'm off to the medicine cabinet for my pepto bismol, you have the floor.
