Earlier today, a diary was published which called for the establishment of new posting guidelines here at Daily Kos, citing a marked deterioration in the civility with which discussions here are conducted. The post referenced "warring political factions" hereabouts.
I will admit to having been confused by this statement. I was unaware of the depth and breadth of the division, and the degree to which the two factions had organized. I asked for clarification, but the replies I received only served to increase my puzzlement.
I assumed I was not alone, and so I took it upon myself to get to the bottom of things - to dig and dig until I could identify the "warring factions" that threaten to rend the fabric of this community. It's taken me several hours, countless search parameters, and not a small amount of sweat, but I believe I can now publish my findings.
On one side, there is the Sometimes You Feel Like a Nut faction, aka the "Almond Joys," or, if they are referring to themselves among themselves, "AJs". The central tenet around which this faction was organized is simple: a candy bar consisting of coconut and milk chocolate must also include almonds. There can be no lessening of commitment to this ideal. Failure to insist upon the inclusion of almonds results in swift expulsion from the faction. They are known to use Twitter to spread the word about recently posted pro-almond diaries, and recommend said diaries rapidly.
Opposing this faction is the Sometimes You Don't (feel like a nut) Faction. The "Mounds" believe the addition of almonds to a coconut and milk chocolate confection to be an intolerable heresy. Members of this faction are required to report every morning to a specially organized top-secret Facebook group, where they each must post the message "NO ALMONDS" three times in rapid succession to demonstrate loyalty to the cause. Failure to do so is not tolerated for any reason, and members who neglect this responsibility face sudden excommunication.
I should note here that, despite rumors to the contrary, I could find no evidence to suggest that Rahm Emmanuel is involved in any way with either faction.
I hope this clears things up. Don't forget to brush your teeth.
