There is a pretty important diary on the rec-list now with the playful title "Taxing the wealthy will kill the economy? Teabagger, please." Of course, "Teabagger, please." is a play on "nigga, please" which is why one commenter suggested that it be modified to "bagga, please!" -- since that has the right number of syllables.
"nigga, please." is something that a small number of black people (not even most) might say to another black person who is acting in a way that meets the "nigger" stereotype invented by some racist white people. It is a very destructive stereotype that is still with us today. I think there are some people who think that most black people say "nigga, please," often, but, in fact, I have never said it and no one has ever said it to me. I have never witnessed it said to anyone. And I live in the South Bronx. And I spend a lot of time in Harlem. (So, don't say I'm some isolated buppie, I'm not.) I just don't encounter this word very often. But, I have seen it online once or twice, and I have seen it in videos-- but, a whole lot of what shows up in videos and mass media as "black culture" has only tangential relationships to what I know. I have heard teens say the word from time to time, and I scold them when they do. It's a crappy word no matter how you spell it.
So, what is the meaning of "Teabagga please." ? I guess it means that the person saying it thinks that the teabaggers are as bad as niggers. And what is the meaning of "teaboincs" ? The beautiful way of speaking know as African American Vernacular English (AAVE) is often called 'Ebonics' -- in any case, most folks think that Ebonics is the way that many black people talk to each other. They'd call the way that I speak to some of my folks, or the way my preacher speaks in church 'Ebonics.' So, when it is used as an insult-- as in "these people are so DUMB they speak TEAbonics" --what is that saying as a subscript?
Yea-- I'm getting all serious-- but, this really pinches a little. It's like when people call something "faggy" to say that it's not any good. That's just showing how homophobia is built in to the way we see things. Just like "teaboinics" shows how racism is built in to the way we see things.
I mean these teabaggers! They're bad as niggers amiright? Speaking teaboinics!
I don't know. At least teabaggers are the ones who would be most deeply hurt by being compared to black people. But, implicit in that comparison is an old insult.
