The tragedy that occurred on April 20, in the Gulf of Mexico will have far reaching consequences. The loss of human life was the most obvious and horrific result. Other effects are so widespread that we cannot even know the exact extent of the damage or the extent of the impact this will have in the future.
One fact that we all know, and that has been mentioned in other diaries is that there was no acoustic switch that could turn off the spill. This is required in many countries. It used to be required in other countries. Somehow, from the years 2001 through 2008 this regulation was removed. Let's just say that the culprit's last name begins with a "C" and ends with a "y."(And has the letters "hene" in the middle.)
This is why this article is particularly irksome.
NYtimes article
Katrina? Really?
You're calling this Obama's Katrina?
I am a little disappointed in Obama's response. However, I am much more dismayed and disgusted by BP's response. Even this article states that the Obama administration is not happy with BP's actions over the last week and a half. I hope Obama changes his plans and visits the Gulf.
I also seem to remember that Obama did not gut FEMA and install one of his cronies.
Well, the workers who died on the oil rig, people who make their living off of the Gulf and residents nearby, not to mention all the wildlife. They deserve better.
But Katrina?
I'm going to go to work now. But I'll check back around noon and read all five comments...I swear.
