I realize I may be preaching to the choir a little bit here, but it's important to point out just how vital this election is. Tomorrow Pennsylvania will be holding its primary election and, as all of you know, Rep. Joe Sestak is taking on Sen. Arlen Specter. Many of you may be saying, "anybody is better than Specter" and just voting against Specter. Follow me below the fold where I will explore why you shouldn't just be going out to vote against Specter, but to be excited about voting FOR Representative Joe Sestak.
First and foremost in my mind, is the fact that Sestak is a firm supporter of card check and was a co-sponsor of the Employee Free Choice Act. Some of you may recall that Specter was one of the reasons that card check was stripped out of the EFCA when it was brought to the Senate. And, rest assured, that if we return Specter to the Senate, then card check will be left behind again. If we send Sestak to the Senate, card check has a better chance.
Second, is the fact that Sestak is a better choice for the environment. In the wake of the disaster in the Gulf, a strong champion of the environment is key in Washington. And, according to the League of Conservation Voters, Sestak is the clear choice when it comes to fighting for a cleaner world. Specter? He's only slightly better than a coin flip.
Finally, although it happened a little while back, it's important to remember. Specter was a supporter of the Iraq War from day one. Sestak, on the other hand, tried to redeploy our forces out of Iraq while he served in Congress.
In short, the choice seems pretty easy. So don't just go out to vote against Arlen Specter. Go out and vote FOR Joe Sestak. And make sure you bring a friend to the polls and convince him or her to vote for Joe Sestak as well. It's still a close race and every vote is crucial.
