First get rid of "big guvmint" that allows all of these free-loading "lucky duckies" to take a free ride on things like the government indoctrination centers (public schools), socialist transportation (buses, Amtrak, etc), and inefficient utilities. Now that we've placed all of those socialist-fascist things in private hands, the companies are free (because that's what real freedom from the government means to these guys) to discriminate against any find more efficient ways to deny serve customers. Like Rand Paul said, if you happen to walk into a Woolworths and they think you're just a little too blond (there's no racism to see here, remember?) to sit at their lunch counter, then you are free to walk out. Don't you see the marvelous Freedom agenda on display here? Imagine the Paulite-Freedom of being able to choose the bus system that only allows "refined riders" and doesn't let the "urban element" on. Accuse that freedom agenda and liberty system of racism? How dare you. More below the fold...
It's a pretty clever rhetorical gimmick, isn't it? We all know what I'm talking about, which is Freedom of course, and it seems that only you thought about race, you racist. It's like the Colbert "I'm color blind" trick.
The Rand/Ron Paul narrative of white middle class victimhood really does trace its roots deep in our racist past. I talk to numerous tea-bagger Alex Jones types here in Texas that think they are middle-class Murikans when they clearly are not. The only thing they think is holding them back is the wasteful government spending on the lower classes, not NAFTA (in Texas no less!), not financial deregulation, not trickle down economics. Seriously, I've heard several people mention that the EPA (yes, the Environmental Protection Agency) is hurting the economy.
So honestly, there is very little reason to argue with a converted Paulite, because they might not be racist, just delusional.
Independent voters know better. Maddow did an excellent job of focusing on the true Libertarian cult, which is Unbridled Capitalism, free to create, destroy, discriminate, or pollute without any "socialist" interference. The "Free market" is a delusion, not a future solution and people other than Paulites know this, especially after the 2008 crash.
If you run into an independent minded voter that is thinking about Paulism, take them on a tour to prisonplanet.com by Alex jones and ask them if it's a site dedicated to the serious discussion that would be required of such a radical change in our system. It isn't. It's focused on the Bilderberg group, Chemtrails, the trilateral commision, Obama's birth certificate and whatever Chuck Norris thinks. Glenn Beck has his Goldline scam, Alex Jones has his Midas Resource rip-off too. There aren't a bunch of economists debating how this radical system would work if they actually did "take it back". It's mindless Palinism dressed up as pseudo economic intellectualism. They don't even admit that Greenspan was a Libertarian adherent of Ayn Rand.
You don't have to mention racism to identify crazy, and these people are chock full o' batshit crazy.
In other words, Libertarianism as it is currently promoted is based on a freemarket delusion as preached by radio clowns.
