Yesterday I thought it might be a good idea to examine seven environmental laws which are crippled by the oil and gas exemptions. I started with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) because I believe the Halliburton/Cheney 2005 Energy Policy Act's neutering of NEPA as to oil and gas leases and permits is one of the reasons for the Deepwater Horizon disaster.
I was happy to read many good comments but the fact is, the popularity of outrage diaries, many of which are not based in fact and law, seem to be what folks are craving. I am not referring to the fine diaries of Fishgrease, FishOutofWater, RLMiller, A Siegal, Crashing Vor and ericlewis.
I don't mind anger, outrage even, over this debacle. What I do mind is what I see as nothing more than diaries or comments which are vehicles for stirring the shit pot rather than addressing the laws and regulations which allowed for this blow out to happen. I mind Secretary of Energy Chu being referred to as a "bozo." I mind people not reading or understanding the National Contingency Plan, claiming that Admiral Thad Allen and Carol Browner are liars, President Obama is doing nothing because he is in bed with the Oil Industry. I mind a diary blatantly asserting that Gordon Getty is an oil tycoon.
This isn't a GBCW diary because I'm not all that tedious. It's a take a break diary before I write something hydratable. It's a take a break diary to see if maybe in time, folks will actually be interested in tackling legislative issues related to the environment and policy and stripping them of exemptions for oil and gas.
And yes, I know how this works so I'll save you some time. Feel free to cut and paste in your comments:
Don't let the door hit ya.
Bye. Don't come back.
If you can't take the heat, get out of the DKos kitchen.
You are a corporate shill.
How long have you worked for BP?
You are an ass-licking Obamabot.
This is not a diary.
I'm HR'ing because this diary is . . . .
