Jump into the wayback machine to 2003, early in the invation of Iraq.
I recall that when Jessica Lynch (remember her?) and her unit were captured by Iraqi forces, the conservative talking heads had absolute kittens at the Iraqis violating the Geneva convention with it's treatment of US prisoners.
Their violation?
They ran videotape of the prisoners on TV.
The squad was being asked their names, hometowns, etc. Officially, it was a violation of Geneva.
Why bring this up?
It is an illustration of the dramatic flip-flop by those on the right when it comes to torture. When US troops are the POW's, the other side had better be wearing their kid gloves. Where's the Red Cross with their Hershey bars?
But when we, the US, are the captors, it's a case of "Rules? What rules? Situational ethics, man! The means justify the ends! We're here to win, baby!"
Why the change? Oh yeah- it's convenient.
So much for the "Rule of Law" and having solid, unwavering convictions.
I'm sure those with better research skills can find tasty then-and-now quotes from the usual suspects illustrating the switch.
