Now I know this might seem like a rather odd diary. Perhaps it is. But I am very serious about this. When I was in college, I felt absolutely compelled to get a degree in History, specifically Early American Political History. I even tried to let go of the idea and study something else, but I could not. I also studied as much as I could about Abraham Lincoln as I believe he was and remains our greatest president.
I am passionate about this country and yes, patriotic, but not to the point of believing the government can do no wrong. I was extremely upset when the Bush administration deemed anyone who disagreed with their policies as being un-patriotic. I am not one who just waves the flag on certain holidays. I have a had, for many years, a 3x5 foot flag hanging on the wall in my living room.
I received my Bachelor's Degree in History in December 2000. Now nearly ten years later, I am still wondering what to do with the degree I just had to get. Teaching jobs were scarce even then and now, with the economy still bad, teaching is probably not a real option.
So my question is: What else can I do with a passion for Early American Political history, Abraham Lincoln and a Bachelor's Degree? I am currently working as a part time manager in a restaurant and grateful to have a job. But I feel like there must be something else I could do related to my area of study. I just do not where to look or even what options, other than teaching, are available.
