As a political junkie and registered Independent, I am always fascinated by some of the political angles that are manifested among the American people - be it Republican or Democrat! One of the things that has been happening in the past year is an awkward angle on the relationship between terrorists and the Republican message. It is a bit complex but more and more people believe that Republicans are hoping for a terrorists act to take place in America because they believe such an act would get the American voter to flock to the Republican party. That of course sounds like something out of the loony bin but we have to look at how and where those ideas come from. So let us look at the following issue and question:
Suppose two people, Mr Doe and Mr Smith were running for office. Let's say that you believe Mr Doe, if elected, would do a better job than Mr Smith; Can we then construed from that that you are in FAVOR of Mr Doe and oppose to Mr Smith? Can we also conclude that you have in effect TAKEN SIDES by agreeing with Mr Doe since agreeing really translates to SUPPORTING Mr Doe. The reason we ask those questions is because that is precisely what is happening with the Republican party vis-a-vis terrorism.
We are constantly being told by Republicans about the successes of terrorists while at the same time attacking the Obama Administration and its handling of this issue. And now we find many Americans are convinced that Republicans would like to see some kind of terrorist act take place because they, Republicans, believe it will then make it possible to win elections!
That conclusion is not just something that has been picked out of thin air. We have had Republicans constantly putting down and ridiculing the Obama Administration while in many ways complimenting the terrorists. Republicans have discussed the successes terrorists had when they planted a man aboard an airliner last December who then attempted to detonate some kind of device in his shoes! They have now again talked about how another person managed to drive and park a vehicle loaded with explosives in the Times Square section of New York City all the while ridiculing the Obama Administration. In both cases they have sort of complimented the terrorists while at the same time scolding and ridiculing our own President and Congress. In some other ways, they have actually built up the image of terrorists organizations with their right wing rhetoric.
Take for instance Dick Cheney's public speech against Obama's plan to try terrorists in the New York City court system. Mr Cheney told us how dangerous the terrorists were and how we must never under any circumstance allow them to come to the continental United States. He explained that these people were so dangerous that even a SuperMax prison would not be suitable for them. The implications of course were that if they were brought to the mainland they would just take over the prisons and soon every prisoner and every guard would be turned into a terrorist! That's what we were suppose to believe! (Nobody bothered to ask the main question here: Suppose they are tried by a Military Tribunal and found guilty, WHERE WOULD THEY BE INCARCERATED? Certainly NOT in the USA if we are to believe Mr Cheney.) So WHERE would they be imprisoned????
When you analyze that kind of talk you can only conclude that those words have the effect of BUILDING UP those terrorists organizations. Those were words that were heard all over the world including people in those radicalized nations where that type of talk simply further encourages that type of terrorists thinking. When we have a Vice President telling the world of how powerful, how successful, how smart, how clever those terrorists organizations are, he is in effect buiding up those organizations. That is precisely the type of rhetoric that serves as recruitment of young radicals around the world to join the terrorists networks courtesy of Mr Cheney! Americans are beginning to believe that the anti-Obama campaign being run by Republicans is slowly morphing into Republicans hoping that a terrorist act takes place as a way of winning elections! Since we know that Republicans are against Obama on this issue then we can only conclude that they are rhetorically complimenting radical elements. If not in actual action, certainly in their rhetoric and spirit. Terrorists probably love nothing more than seeing a nation divided and seeing a lack of support for the administration. Both of those things are being provided courtesy of the Republican party.
So we have a political party, the GOP, constantly taking sides AGAINST the Obama Administration which translates into a sort de facto support for anti-American radicals. This is an awful reality but perception can often over rule reality. The idea that Republicans will benefit from some terrorism act is guess work! It is an extremely ridiculous idea because a terrorist act on our country may NOT get people to support Republicans at all. It may work the other way around! Republicans may in effect get the blame for whatever happens because of their refusal to support their own government! We must always remember that those doing the talking, mostly in conservative talkradio and television are NOT the card carrying average Republican out there. These are people who have propped themselves up and serve as fear mongerers and rumor merchants and basically liers and mouth pieces for the rich and powerful - not representatives of your average hardworking middle class Republican voter!
