BP and Oil companies have mounted a fierce public relations campaign to tell us that oil drilling is really okay and that the black stuff that scientests are telling us is spreading in the ocean, well, that's nothing to worry about.
I mean, Rick Perry said it was an 'act of God' and therefore BP or other oil companies are implied to be exempt.
UNLESS THE CLEAN UP IS DONE IMMEDIATELY, NOT ONLY OUR GULF COAST BUT THE EAST COAST OF THE UNITED STATES COULD BE PERMANENTLY DAMAGED.
We MUST counter the loud propaganda that is being pushed on the airwaves in the last two days with a LOUD CALL TO CLEAN UP AND CLEAN UP FAST.
Perhaps a way to let them know that we are not buying their PR bullshit is to call for a nationwide BOYCOTT OF BP in support of our coastline and all the people and industries supported by them.
In the meanwhile, we can call on our congresspeople, to draft legislation to prohibit BP from doing business in the United States, until they PROMPTLY CLEAN THE MESS UP. SHUT DOWN THE BP GAS STATIONS NOW.
That should get BP focused on the clean up and not the spin, debating whose responsibility it is. Instead of using their money to buy Republican shills, let them figure out how to save our country.
There is an excellent diary on the Rec List tonight that explains in far better terms that I could ever do what is going on with this OIL Disaster.
I strongly encourage you to readThe Gulf Stream is Only the Beginning
In this diary, there is a video of the Oil Spill Trajectory and how close we are coming to have the oil spill go into the Gulf Stream.
We have got to shout loud and hard. There is no time to waste.
This is a major disaster that, if allowed to happen, will be bigger than Katrina or Haiti in my opinion.
The fact that BP is denying responsibility for this, yet saying that they will clean it up while sending out paid shills in the last two days, who are like a fucking oil spill themselves on the airways, shows you where BP and the oil companies have put their money and priorities: their profit. Screw our health or the health of this country.
THEY NEED TO PUT THEIR MONEY INTO CLEANING UP THE FUCKING OILSPILL FAST.
Shall we call for an immediate boycott of BP? A very loud boycott?
What can we do to protect our land and future before it is too late?
UPDATE:
Many of the commenters in this diary are rightly stating that the clean up is something that can't be done quickly. However, as much as anything else, what I am suggesting in this diary is that I think it is very, very important to the clean up effort itself, that the shills of oil, especially representatives of BP, NOT BE ALLOWED TO WIN THE PR WAR. Because this will dramatically impact the clean up effort, in my opinion.
We learned the hard way with the healthcare debacle, that we have to stay on top of the spin war with the paid shills of big corps, in this case, big oil. The last two days we have been losing, in my opinion.
I am shocked at the potential damage awaiting us next week, so I am asking the community how we can break through their lies and get back the PR on this to focus on the truth of what is happening.
UPDATE TWO:
This comment by deben explains maybe better than I have why we have to put BP on the offensive:
Boycott BP
BP will be appealing judgments till Judgment Day, and victims will still be waiting to be compensated until they die of natural causes. See Exxon and giant health insurance corporations for how this is done.
BP has a substantial investment in retail and their trademark is worth at least hundreds of millions of dollars. That is why they display their marques across the world and on television and try to protect it.
There are boycotts going on, not necessarily organized; but in Orlando for instance, the local news has been interviewing drivers who say they will not buy from BP now.
Let BP be on defense, worrying about boycotts, instead of offensively thinking up ways to get the little people to sign away their rights to sue.
