In the campaign to elect a new member of Congress in Washington's 3rd district, voters deserve to know where the candidates stand.
In two successful campaigns for State Senate and two for County Commission, I've always told voters exactly who I am and what I stand for. I'm a progressive Democrat with a 100% record on the environment, a commitment to protect the right to choose, and a 98% lifetime record supporting working families.
My primary opponent, business investor Denny Heck, would rather keep Democratic voters guessing. Time and again I have asked, "Where is Denny?" And all we hear back is silence.
From financial reform to health insurance reform to the rights of labor, Denny Heck has failed to tell us unequivocally where he stands. These are crucial issues and voters deserve to know how their next representative will serve them in Washington, D.C.
Let me be clear: I support the Employee Free Choice Act because we need to honor the tradition of labor in our country and provide security for working families during these uncertain and difficult times.
I was raised in a union family – my father was a mill worker and my mother was a teacher. I will always respect and stand up for laborers and their right to organize and challenge unfair treatment at the workplace. That's just the right thing to do.
If you share my values, if you support working families, I hope you'll stand with me - and sign my petition in support of the Employee Free Choice Act.
Whether you live in Washington's 3rd, elsewhere in Washington, or across the country, it's time for progressives to stand up and make our values clear -- we stand with working people. And it's time that we elect Members of Congress that do too.
