The mood is shifting away from Specter...
Joe Sestak was the guy I wanted to see run against Toomey before Arlen ever switched parties. He excited people, and he was brave, and he was liberal! Those are great qualities in a Democrat.
But seeing the party establishment close ranks against a solid, though "outsider", Democrat in favor of "Magic Bullet" Spector tipped the deal in my opinion. Once I saw the ads go up, and once I saw the 5/3 poll, I knew this campaign was real, and I had to start volunteering for Sestak.
Today was just phone banking, mostly to the Lehigh/Reading area, but the response was about the best I've seen in a decade. Yeah, there were a few Specter supporters, but the responses from those were tired -- lacking conviction. The Sestak supporters, and in my sample they outnumbered Spector 5:1, were charged up!
"Yeah, Joe's our guy!" said one, "Arlen'll probably change back to Republican after November anyhow, you watch!"
"Oh no question," said one woman, "especially after that terrible ad he ran.".
Point is, the Democrats are engaged this year, and in PA they would seem to be flexing some independence from what the leaders in Washington would have. With a little help, we could nominate a real Democrat, so let's git 'er done!
