When is a government study, not a study? When it doesn't exist.
In the Minnesota House on Tuesday Representative Steve Gottwalt (R- St. Cloud) cited a Minnesota government study that says people are using abortion to choose the sex of their baby. Today Representative Maria Ruud (D-Brooklyn Park) said she had checked and Minnesota had not produced any such study or report. Representative Gottwalt admitted his error, but then handed out a newspaper article from the Boston Globe that he said said abortion was being used for sex selection.
Representative Gottwalt cited the non-existent abortion study on Tuesday during a debate on an amendment that would prevent abortions that were for the purpose of selecting the sex of a child. That amendment to the Health and Human Services bill did pass on Tuesday.
