Daily Kos is a community dedicated to electing "better Democrats" that will make the implementation of progressive policies a reality for our nation. Nonetheless, we are being fooled by the Corporate Democratic Party. They are NOT A PROGRESSIVE POLITICAL PARTY, let me REPEAT, they are NOT A PROGRESSIVE POLITICAL PARTY. They are just another arm of corporations and the military industrial complex that also controls in even greater ways the Republican Party.
Why do I say this. We just need to look at our President. Some may say he has progressive ideas, some may say his speeches are full of social justice and equality for all, which if implemented will put an end to corporate dominance in America and restore democracy in our nation. Nonetheless, politicians are masters in public speaking, they are experts in making it seem they are something they are not, and President Obama is no different from any other corporate politician. Why do I say this. Well his actions so far as President.
- "Wars on Terror" : Yes, he is reducing forces in Iraq and putting an end to this endless war. Yes, he opposed this war from the start. Nonetheless, he apparently did not oppose the rationale that takes us into these wars because he has increased the troops in Afganisthan, when we have been there for 9 years, the longest war in US history, and when we are in a recession at home. But what is even worse than expanding a war that makes no sense is keeping the military industrial complex in charge of our military. It is important to understand that if war is a business model of corporations to get rich and tap new markets, peace would not be an option, not even a remote one. Our President as the leader of the Democratic Party keeps believing we can WIN A WAR ON A TACTIC, that we can BOMB and KILL TERROR. That is contradictory and only puts more and more young American lives at risk.
- An all powerful executive. The Obama administration, even though they have pledged to close Guantanamo, end torture, and put rules in place so that the Executive power is limited, has kept fighting those who want to limit their power. They have kept the policies of unlimited detention, they have seek the power to kill any US citizen without a cause, they have kept prisoners from finding out evidence against them or what are the accusations against them. In sum, they have expanded Bush policies that in times of war the President has unlimited power to "protect us from terrorits".
- Wall Street in the drivers seat
As a candidate President Obama was a strong supporter of bailing out big investment banks using our money and without nearly any regulation that will force these banks to use the money they get from us, to lend. That was no surprise he was the candidate who took the most money from banks and corporations. Yes, the President has tried to "regulate" Wall Street but that regulation is missing the point and the real cause of the recession. It does not address banks who are too big to fail. If a bank is to big to fail, it is to big to exist and the federal government needs to break them apart into smaller units. It also does not reinstate the Glass-Steagall Act that separates normal banks from investment ones. In sum, the president has kept the old system where the powerful corporations can grow to gigantic sizes and the federal government let's them exist. He is keeping a system that rewards wealth, and not work.
- Private Insurance companies are essential: With the passage of the healthcare law, yes millions of Americans have access to a marketplace where they can shop for their own private insurance and yes there are some important regulations to those insurances. Nevertheless, this law keeps the failed system in place of letting private insurance giants exist. When a President accepts that denying people of the healthcare they paid for is a profitable business model and an acceptable one, we are giving corporate giants the power over our health, our economy and our people. We are denying millions the right to an affordable healthcare.
5. Crimes go unpunished and whisleblowers get punished. President Bush admitted recently he ordered his government to commit waterbording which is a war crime. But President Obama keeps his moving foward approach. He does not understand that crimes are crimes for a reason and that not punishing them gives those criminals leaway to commit them again and again. But what makes this all worse is that people who expose criminals, get prosecuted for exposing them. How can we be a democracy that respects the rule of law if we treat those who protect the law worse than those who break it.
In essence, President Obama and his political party are a party owned by the corporate powers who own this country and the military industrial complex who profits from the wars we face aboard and demand more and more war by making peace a bad business model. How can we change our nation if we keep those who are selling it to the millionaries in power.
The 2008 elections proves to us that a change in party is not going to change anything if corporations are in the drivers seat.
