I am responding to some of the commenters on Stephen Daughtery's diary on the recc list today.
The expectations that some people have for this President shows either a willful disregard for our way of government or a complete lack of understanding with how it works.
This pretty much sums up what is terribly wrong with progressives who think that the President can by fiat tell the government what to do and how to do it.
Unfortunately, now we ARE fighting Obama. (124+ / 0-)
Cuz he ain't fighting for us.
Regardless of what you thought of that speech, have we seen anything on environmental policy that resembles what can reasonably considered a Democratic, let alone Progressive, policy?
The man announced a policy of more offshore drilling in late March for chrissakes.
Even George W. Bush didn't do that.
What gives?
Everyone here knows what we are facing. We accept the data on global warming and we are pretty certain about peak oil and what that means for our children and this planet.
And we thought Obama understood this.
And we are expecting some leadership from the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES on this issue.
And that ain't too much to ask I don't think from a man who is making over $200K/yr.
We needed a leader and we got somebody who wants to go along. He's been negotiating with himself for 18 months.
That ain't gonna cut it.
He needs to develop a vision, put it forward and fight for it and for us. And when I say vision, I don't mean getting offshore drilling back online.
Well folks need to get real because I am her today to tell you that the President is NOT your Daddy and NOT your King.
He cannot snap his fingers and tell the Presidential guards to take off someone's head because they won't vote the way he wants them to.
I will let the comments speak for themselves, because I think they are just ridiculous and really sad. The expectations that some people have are completely unrealistic in the type of Government that we have:

He's the fucking president. If he says so, it happens. If he wills it, it will happen.
He's a fucking corporate whore just like every other politician in Washington. A middle of the road fence sitter. Corporations run our government

They think the president is a dictator. They don't understand the power of the mighty dollar and greed.

He's the President, not Merlin the Magic. When did any POTUS have omnipotent powers?

...enough for its own publication? Why, is it some sort of numerical milestone? The one millionth iteration of 'don't push for anything better, just sit down and shut up for the sake of 'morale?'
Sorry, morale was crushed long ago, and events have proven some won't have their morale crushed no matter what this administration does, so how about trying to win back the morale of those who feel betrayed. For me it was when Obama was twisting arms for reconfirming Bernake at the very moment we needed him twisting arms for the public option. For others it came earlier, for others later, ie. prosecuting whistleblowers.
But the bottom line is you have said nothing here that has not been repeated ad nauseum, and it certainly didn't require its own 'publication.'
And it goes on and on and on!
