Did you hear Rachel speak from the Oval Office tonight?
It was a marvel - witty, pointed, blunt and so right-on!
She gave the speech she wanted Obama to give, and she
did it well. Try to catch a replay later, worth staying up for.
Meanwhile here is a taste:
"Fake President" Rachel Maddow spoke from the Oval Office tonight
before an amusing backdrop of the President's office that stage hands
carried on, and she won my vote -- for any office any time!
Put off and disappointed by President Namby Pamby's performance
last night on the politically explosive subject of oil and energy, as many
of us were, Rachel reimagined Obama's speech, and at the end of her hour
tonight she delivered it - in about five or six minutes - brilliantly!
She made three points in very direct language:
Oil companies have been lying to us for a long time and still are.
Government's handling of oil extraction has been corrupt and still is.
Government must act more decisively and directly than the they have --
right up through today, to resolve basic problems.
Our "President" announced she will curtail all deepwater oil well activity
indefinitely and until producers prove "definitively" they can safely
extract petroleum and effectively deal with accidents of man and nature.
She will enlist Hillary Clinton to help bring the best modern technology
from anywhere in the world to clean up the Gulf Mess and she will do it now.
She will totally reform US Govt. energy practices and planning, and take
immediate steps to pass appropriate legislation through the Senate (it passed
the House one year ago).
And there was more ... so tune in and get it all on MSNBC's late rebroadcast.
Rachel is a talented and valuable asset to our political dialogue. If we did not
now have her, she would have to be invented. Like the late Mollie Ivans she
tells it like it is, blunt and big time, and drives her points home, no holds barred.
She sometimes is too wordy and over-sells, but she's improving all the time.
I hope she does not go on too much longer on cable news -- she is really better
than that, but right now she is performing quite a service as Obama's gadfly. I
do hope he sees her "speech" tonight. But she should quit after the 2012
election and maybe go into politics herself (though she is really too honest),
or better she should take a major professorship in a big public university and
get maximum exposure to her fair and liberal ideas, and write a column for
whatever is left of the New York Times.
Meanwhile, a special blessing upon her for she did not end her Oval Office
speech tonight by calling for prayer! Hooray!
