Juan Manuel Santos a clear sucessor to Alvaro Uribe Velez won the Colombian Elections today in a landslide victory with 68% of the vote to the Green Party competitor Antanas Mockus who gained 28% of the vote.
Juan Manuel Santos, running on the Social Party of National Unity or "La U" gained endorsements from the Liberal and Conservative parties the two previous majority parties of the country.
The Social Party of National Unity emerged after Alvaro Uribe, a Liberal Candidate left his party and formed a new moderate third party that soon gained the majority in the congress as the popularity of Uribe's administration rose among the general populace.
Uribe's support among the populace has only grown as of late and this election seemed to be a test of his legacy as Santos, seen as his succesor, vested is campaign in continuing Uribe's policies.
Despite high poll numbers when it came down to the actual votes Antanas Mockus had a pitiful showing. Some claim a silent majority showed up at the polls. Other claim the polls themselves were flawed.
