Man. Looking for the new hammer-Joe-Barton commercial, I wandered to "The Democratic Party" website and clicked on What We Stand For Here's what I got:
The Democratic Party is committed to keeping our nation safe and expanding opportunity for every American. That commitment is reflected in an agenda that emphasizes the strong economic growth, affordable health care for all Americans, retirement security, open, honest and accountable government, and securing our nation while protecting our civil rights and liberties.
Putting aside the embarrassing grammatical error ("an agenda that emphasizes the strong economic growth..."), that above sounds like a mealy-mouthed mishmash of Washington-speakbabble.
Why not just state - in clear, English terms - what Democrats stand for?
I'll give you a list:
We stand for the fact that all Americans have the right to :
LIFE: To not die because they you happen to be poor and sick, and,
LIBERTY: A government that is free from corruption and cannot be bought,
THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS: A belief that any two people who love each other have the right marry.
We stand for a clean environment free of toxins that preserves the earth for future generations.
We stand for capitalism and rewarding risk, but not at the cost of the common good.
We do not stand for holding corporations and invididuals accountable for their actions.
We stand for an educational system that gives all American kids a great education, regardless of where you live or who you are.
We believe in free markets, and that cap and trade is the ONLY way to avoid environmental disaster on a global scale.
We stand for a woman's right to choose the fate of her own body.
We stand for the common good.
We stand for YOU.
But of course, because Democrats are afraid to STAND for anything, they look like they don't stand for ANYTHING.
And I personally can't stand that.
