for much of the stupidity that surrounds us today. You see in the spring of 1970, I was just finishing my freshman year in college after spending a few years in the Air Force, and the country was in big time turmoil. Our college campus went on strike to protest everything you could think of along with Kent State, the draft, the WAR, not being able to go in your girlfriend's room in her dorm, and whole bunch of other stuff.
Well some students decided that they knew more about what makes up a good college education than the College Curriculum Committee, so they convinced many of us to work with them to increase electives, and screw those pain in the ass requirements.
And of course we won, and the college curriculums all across our country got watered down, and those well educated professors got put in their place. We were so smart and powerful. Now you can graduate from college without taking such waste of time courses as Geography, Philosophy,Economics, Anthropology and the list goes on and on...
So is it any wonder that so many of our fellow citizens don't have a clue about the World and our History. They just keep pushing forward whatever that means and not knowing what forward is.
And by the way this does not include the up to 40% of our fellow countryman that function at the reading level of an eight grader. Go into the average household in America and count the number of books on their bookshelves, and then ask how many non-fiction books they have read in the past year.
We are a country with a large number of the under-educated,and functionally illiterate, that believe that they are oh so knowledgeable, and for the part that I played in the dumb down our college curriculum, I'm sorry.
