It was one of the longest wars in American history, it started the day the war in Europe ended in 1945, and the "winners" divided Europe, Berlin, the Kotean Peninsula into a North and South Korea, one of the smartest moves was not even letting the Russians into Japan. General MacArthur knew there was nothing good to come out of it, and he refused to allow any Soviet Forces in the country.
For those of us in grade school we got to learn to run into the hallways of our schools and bend over just in case of that nuclear cloud ever showed up. We all knew where the bomb shelters were in town. In Germany we were trained to notify the MPs if we saw a soviet car in an American sector, like American vehicles they bore special license plates showing they were russians. Our submarines chased their submarines, we kept B 52s with nukes on board in the air 24/7 flying huge circles over Alaska and the Pacific ocean. Then both nations built ICMBs with multiple warheads and we had the MAD theory "mutually assured destruction" there were enough nukes to wipe out the earth at least 10 times.
It was more of a spy war, we used U2's remember the pilot Gary Powers? Then we had the SR71s, the satellites made them obsolete. Then the russians went bankrupt in the early 90s and that was the end of the Cold War, it wasn't "won" by anyone, regardless of the republicans claim that Reagan won it. That will be pretty much like saying Osama Bin Ladin is going to defeat the USA after we end up filing bankruptcy in another 10 years or so, when our national debt goes past the tipping point, the Chinese won't lend us any more money to buy the junk they sell us at Wal Mart.
But for this glorious week, we have the "Cold War" back we caught 11 Russian spys living in the United States, and this is a mixture of the James Bond movies and the Gang Who Can't shoot straight.
Well it's obvious the KGB did not just disappear and go away they just renamed themselves and Putins pupils are hard at work training new people to embed in tbe US. But in my opinion these 11 idiots could have learned more about US business and political interests by reading Daily Kos and using Google sitting in Moscow, rather than setting up houses in Yonkers, and Virginia and the other places they chose.
They did give us the red hot tamale that everyone is naming the "James Bond Girl" Does Anna Chapman look like Spitzer's hooker? Glad I didn't ask that question, I wonder how CNN will appreciate it now that they have hired him?
I did think it was odd that President Clinton was having dinner with Putin the night that the DOJ decided to arrest them, that must have been a fun dinner.......Does Putin donate to the Clinton Foundation?
For old guys like me reliving the Cold War is fun especially with idiots of this caliber, what could they possibly hope to gather from the lives they were leading, how to get your kids into the best soccer schools in the nation? How to live beyond your means in America?
I still want tio hear how the paymaster disappeared in Cypress, now that will make a great chapter for the book.

On a personal note I will be making an appearance in this special on July 11, 2010 on the SyFy channel

I will be one of these people Victims (including former U.S. military personnel) of unauthorized government experimentation. I spent 4 hours being interviewed I wonder if they use 5 minutes of it lol they told me they are going to dispel the myths and tell the truth about the vagaries the government has enjoyed to cover up the real on goings at places like Area 51 a air force base used to test experimental aircraft not to hide "aliens"
I spoke about what I know about the human experimentation at Edgewood Arsenal in 1974.
Most of the people on this list seem pretty main stream to me hardly CT types....maybe this show will be different....
