Bringing in new voters and convincing them to turnout and vote this November is key to maintaining our majority in the House and Senate. Without the President at the top of the ticket this November this is not going to be easy but heck nothing this President has ever done has been easy IMO.
The question I plan to ask myself everyday from now until November is "what have you done today to maintain our majority".
On July 17, 2010 Organizing for America will be having a day of action with a massive voter registration drive. There are so many ways for each of us to participate. They have the new RaiseYourVote website where you can essentially direct friends, co-workers and family to register to vote on their own.
You can join in on the 17th and host a voter registration drive http://my.barackobama.com/... in your community. Please contact your State Board of Elections to see if you need to register with them in order to be able to register new voters.
You can contact your State OFA Field Director by email at OFAYourState@dnc.org and ask how you can assist if none of the above fits your needs.
We are 4 months away from election day and I just don’t subscribe to the idea that we have to give up a gazillion seats this year because it’s a mid-term election. I really believe that with consistent effort we can overcome whatever enthusiasm gap there is this year with hard work.
As I recall in the summer of 2007 there wasn’t a whole lot of enthusiasm for then Senator Obama. We worked hard and turned that around.
I know from reading some of the diaries on this site that some of you are very disappointed in this Administration. I understand that and you have a right to your opinion. The only thing I ask is that you temper that with action. Work for better Progressive Dems and understand that unfortunately we don’t live in a full out progressive society so we will probably always have conservative Dems within our party. One of the things that I always admired about the Democratic Party was our outreach to all the various factions of society. We are not just progressive or liberal or centrist or moderate we are all of these things. In my opinion and as painful as it can be at times when legislation gets watered down to include our big tents views I think it’s the thing that I love the most about being a Democrat.
So with that said I hope you plan to commit to work hard to keep our majority this Fall.
Again: I do not work for OFA. I am just a volunteer who is sharing ways to do everything possible to make sure the Repubs do not re-take Congress next year.
