Since the horrible violence in Iraq has accelerated it seems to have suddenly become fashionable on this blog to insist that we just grab our guns and go home. I can't believe I actually have to waste keyboard breath on this but why in the hell do you think leaving a country with no system of gov't, no infrastructure for social welfare, violent warring factions, etc. is more humane in the grand scheme? This notion is almost racist or just wholly ignorant- it's either attributable to a sentiment that says that Iraqi lives matter less or a sentiment that says if we can't see the violence it isn't happening. We have to face facts and realize that we made a mistake in going into Iraq but we can't cut and run now. It's probably going to get worse before it gets better but it seems obvious to me that this is the way it has to be.
