A couple of articles on CNN this morning caught my attention. The BIG HEADLINE reads "GOP Drives Wedge with Health Care." If you follow the link, you get this:
"...a majority of Americans, 56 percent, oppose the health care bill, according to a new CNN/Opinion Research Corporation Poll released Friday morning."
56%? WOW!!! Let's run with that, say the GOP strategists:
A new analysis by Campaign Media Analysis Group for CNN shows that federal and state political candidates have spent $24 million on anti-health care reform television commercials since Congress passed the bill in late March. Over the past 30 days alone, more than $6 million has been spent on TV ads attacking the law...
Oh, no! A $24 Million wedgie. We are so screwed. However, there are a few things about that CNN poll that the GOP is overlooking.
You can link to the poll directly from the article mentioned above, or from right here. There are a few devils in the details that evidently have not caught the attention of the GOP.
Looks like we have picked up a few points since March. The trajectory is going the wrong way for Republicans. That isn't the show-stopper in the report, though; that's farther down:
It turns out that of those opposed to the bill, only 41% are opposed because it's too liberal. The remaining 13% are opposed because it's not liberal enough! I suspect that a lot of us Netroots folks are in the 13% camp, and we certainly won't be voting Republican in November.
$24 Million to reach a 41% minority? Spend away.
