There is an interesting article on the Yahoo front-page regarding some cities that are in danger of a double-dip recession. They have a list of 22 cities. Interestingly, almost all of them are in "red-states". Big surprise, eh? :)
I can't help but wonder if there is a correlation!! I'm just sayin....... Seems like when you have an area of high poverty, under-educated populace, high unplanned prenancy rates, high religious "values", and/or GOP leadership, it creates a rather toxic stew for the folks......whether they think they like it or not!! It's not conducive to recession recovery.
For anyone on the DKos that may have entertained the idea of not voting, or writing in a candidate...I understand! However, looking at that map, you see that CA (my home state), WA, OR, CO, and many other states don't have any cities listed as being in danger (or maybe one), and they all have large numbers of Dems in leadership capacity at the state, and Congressional levels. Now they may have other things going for them too. Like the entertainment industry, or Silicon Valley, or Microsoft, or, or, or......... My analysis is completely unscientifc, I admit. But for an off-the-cuff, split second evaluation....I don't think it's a surprising break-down.
The Dems have not always been the progressive/honorable warriors that I had hoped for. I don't think some are worthy of being voted back into office, even if it means losing the seat....but some are much more good than bad. Some are even just plain Great. Lets not lose any of those people, OK? We don't want to end up in a double-dip city. Can you imagine what Meg Whitman and Carly Fiorina will try to do to California? There will be hateful decisions such as allowing environmental hazards, budget cuts for HC, the elderly, and the poor. They would also want to institute "austerity measures" to bring down the debt and "balance the budget", while OF COURSE not raising taxes.....except maybe on the middle classes. All the while continuing to make it less plausible for the ordinary folks to buy the necessities of life, much less shopping for the joy of it! Then the stores will sell less, people will get laid off, blah, blah, blah...... BOOM....double dip!
So please, don't vote back in people who aren't looking out for our good. They need to go, we will have to try next time around to get a true progressive in the seat. But carefully check out your candidate, and if they are more good than not, they should be kept and encouraged to continue doing a good job and voting PROGRESSIVELY in Congress!!!!!
Thanks for reading. Only my second diary, and I it's not that well put together, but you get the idea!
