All signs point to the Democrats going down to a crushing defeat this November.
Polls show the GOP ahead by ten points on the generic congressional ballot, a new record.
The political conversation is being dictated and dominated by wingnut nonsense. Over half of Republicans suspect that our President hopes to impose sharia law on the United States.
The bottom line is that what the Democrats are doing is not working electorally. And the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.
The good news is that there are still nine weeks to go before the elections. Especially in a midterm election that's a lot of time.
But the question is: what can Democrats do between now and then to change the dynamic of this race?
We all have many reasons for being depressed about what's going on politically right now, but I think the absence of any decent answers to that question--or even serious attempts to come up with decent answers to it--may be what depresses me most of all.
As we saw during the dog days of the Bush Administration, "Clap Louder" isn't a political strategy. It's a sign that you're out of ideas.
I hope that the comments on this diary--if there are any--focus on the constructive issue of what might be done during the next nine weeks to forestall--or at least limit--a Republican victory, rather than on empty pie-fighting over whether I've provided enough happy talk.
