So over the last few days Ive been attempting to think of ways Dems/Progressives can go on the offense over the recess as well as generally speaking with economic issues. The issue at hand isnt the amount of facts, we as Dems/porgressives have plenty of facts, its just a matter of packaging in a way so that it reaches the individual and makes sense to them. Not asking for soundbites because frankly those are worthless, Id just like for something that goes directly at the individual voter.
Im thinking of calling it Bring Your Paycheck or something like that and here is the general idea.
Dems candidates conduct townhalls to which they ask participants to bring in their pay checks or stubs or whatever. Participants are seperated into three groups by age 18-29, 30-55, and 55+. The majority of the conversation is economy and taxes. The candidate asks participants under 55 to call out how much of their paycheck is dedicated to social security, medicare, and medicaid. The total is calculated and put up on a big screen. Three separate totals. Participants are asked if theyd like to reduce the amount of money taken out of their paycheck for each. If so the total is adjusted to reflect. Everytime a certain amount is taken out someone who is collecting either of the three or all three stands up and states that they no longer have one of the three. The idea is to show how cuts in taxes affect people directly, what better way to show that by having your neighbor stand up and say "ok well I just lost that income for a week."
We can do this with many other things, lets say voters want to know about why we needed to pay for road construction, or how carbon caps can aid in research and development or go towards green energy and how that creates jobs. I know its a rough idea but I think itd be a start. What do yo
