This entire election cycle the Democrats have been the victims of a very bad narrative, promoted by such paragons of integrity as Fox and Rasmussen. Well it's beginning to look like they over promoted. In order to energize the base in true Rovian fashion, they have elevated the Teabaggers and the other Republican hate merchants to a level where the clowns were taken seriously, and now they are reaping the consequences: Delaware, Alaska, Kentucky, Nevada, Florida, etc.. If only we could extend the primary season and redo some earlier races. A great deal of the so called Republican enthusiasm derives from a belief that they will do very well this cycle. What happens if that message gets tuned upside down? What happens if Republicans start to believe they could lose due to their own unforced errors? What will happen to all that enthusiasm?
There are so many themes developing late in this election cycle, and many of them have the potential to be very good for Democrats. But the direction the Republican party has taken has the potential to be a true game changer. We need to start shouting very loud. There is nothing worse than watching your team self destruct through unforced and stupid errors. It can drain your enthusiasm very quickly. And that is a message we want to get out. Maybe the Republicans want to lose.
Or maybe the Republicans should take a closer look at the Teabaggers. Does the entire Republican party want to climb into bed with these haters? Not only are their values questionable, but they just may destroy the entire party from within. Are they a positive for the party, or are they really the source of its ultimate demise? It looked like a good move for this election cycle, but now that good news may fade even before the end of a single election cycle. Divide and conquer.
I'd just like the Republicans to start thinking. They have been all to willing to allow evil to go unnoticed so long as it has been to their electoral benefit. Although maybe I am missing the point here, because there is no longer any real distinction between the Republicans and the teabaggers.
One thing I know, Democrats will work harder and will volunteer in greater numbers. We may not have the most motivated electorate, but we will pick those numbers up. What's going to happen the Republican numbers if they start to see signs of defeat? Let's spread the news.
The Republican party has two types of candidates, self funders and teabaggers, and the public needs to understand this. They thrive on hate and bigotry. They do not want to move forward, they want to move backward, and many will tell you so. We have an opening and we need to remind Republicans everyday that they have given it to us.
Now we need to see some articles and diaries which reflect a new reality. Can Democrats achieve a filibuster proof majority in the Senate? Can Democrats in the House outperform the traditional off year results for a first term president? Have Republicans, throught their own devices, handed the Democrats an issue and a victory? Stuff like this gets noticed.
Make no mistake, this is an uphill battle, but it is now a battle, and it has been joined. In difficult circumstances you have to take advantage of all your opportunities, and we have certainly been presented with some. It's time to take advantage of what I hope will become known as the curse of the teabaggers. The first installment of the new narrative has written itself, through their own lunacy Republicans have sabotaged virtually any chance to win the Senate. We need to write the rest of the narrative.
