Imagine reading the following late-September story by Associated Press:
Fresh on the heels of, and emboldened by, Chris O'Donnell's victory in Delaware, most Tea Party chapters now plan to sit out House races in November where they either didn't field a primary candidate, or where their candidate lost to a moderate Republican. In other words, rather than helping mainstream GOP candidates defeat their Democratic opponents in November, the Tea Party plans to let the "weaker" Democratic candidates win in 2010 so fil the seat with a "real Conservative" in 2012.
That the Tea Party would resort to this strategy is not surprising when you consider that Mike Castle would have easily won the general election for the mainstream GOP in Delaware. "What good would it do to let those milquetoast Republicans win seats they will then hold for years and years and years, when abstaining in those races would allow us to seat our Palin Republicans in a couple of years" said Bucky Dimster, director of the Mid-Atlantic Alliance of Tea Parties. "We won't be voting against Republicans," Dimster added. "We're just going to sit by and watch those pandering, weak-willed traitors get what they deserve for blaspheming our traditional Republican values."
(A.P story, cont.)
This bizarre development is infuriating Republican Party leaders who are now at wit's end about how to deal with the uncontrollable "Frankenstein" branch of the GOP they created in 2009 to oppose Democratic health care reform. RNC leader Michael Steele told recently made the statement "Fine. Let those ungrateful renegades sit on their buns while we loyal Republicans win in November. 'Cause we'll just win without them, and then we'll see how big and bad their Tea Party is next year!"
This is a story WE CAN MAKE HAPPEN. I'll bet that the only reason the Tea Party hasn't resorted to that strategy is because THEY HAVEN'T THOUGHT OF IT YET. Well, let's put that gem into their wittle minds, and watch them run with it!
And the great thing is that we don't at all have to be secretive as we plan out this tactic. When Teabaggers begin to read accounts of Tea Party members vowing to "not do a damn thing to help Republican candidates win this fall" some of them will say to themselves "Okay, those Liberals think they're so smart. They think that if they print those stories of our members sitting out some races in November, we'll do the reverse and start supporting mainstream Republicans this fall, and Democrats can win the seats back in three-way races come 2012. How dumb do they think we are?" Of course many of them will say to themselves "Hey, this is brilliant. Why didn't we think of this before."
I think you're beginning to see how our feeding this storyline can only bring favorable, and hugely entertaining, results. What we need to do now is to start asking Tea Party members if they really do plan to throw moderate Republicans under the bus on November 2nd so "real Republicans" can win those seats back in 2012. We can then print their answers in more and more stories, and GET THIS SNOWBALL ROLLING. It would, of course, be fun to run stories about how many of the Teabaggers can't at all figure out whether their "wait two years" plan is a great strategy or not, and who's actually behind it. Either way, it's a win-win.
Now, who's in?
