I remember the "Contract with America". Do you remember what we did to that? We ridiculed it by Savaging it (ala what Dan Savage did to "santorum"). It went from Contract with America to "Contract ON America".
One of the things I don't think the Democratic Party generally understands is how the Republicans have used language to change the terms of the debate in this country. A great example is how letting tax cuts expire becomes "raising taxes". There are a myriad examples of this, most (but not all) on the Republican side. War becomes peace, up becomes down and oxycontin becomes just another liberal smear.
I, therefore, post a challenge to the DKos community. The GOP is introducing its putrid "Pledge to America" which will be the same laundry list of corporatist ass kissing that will continue to allow the capitalist class to run the government. How can we Savage this title?
It is absolutely the most profoundly urgent thing we can do to stifle the "Pledge", from a semiotic point-of-view that is. Of course GOTV is the most important thing we can do, but can't we help along Stewart and Olbermann and Maddow by coining a deliciously nasty phrase for the pledge? Something worse that "Pledge to Kill America". Something that becomes viral and dismissive.
We on the left are supposed to be more creative. So create!
