My name is Carley Baer. I am a folk musician, and I've got a new project: to travel by train across the country from Portland, OR to Washington D.C., to attend the Rally To Restore Sanity (a concept I am completely enamored of), and to make a video diary about the whole experience, posted on YouTube. I also plan to write a 5-song companion digital EP, and release a DVD of the video diary and the EP both sometime in the next few months.
At first I put this idea to my fan base alone, as a sort of hypothetical-- I'm between albums right now and have been itching to do something big, and then Jon Stewart announced the rally, and I just thought it might be cool. Well, I got such an enthusiastic response from them that I've been taking my proposal to the public.
Before I go any further, I just want to state that it is election season and a lot of our people are on the ropes, and they need money too. My intention is not to divert funds from candidates in contentious elections; rather, I'm hoping to bring a little positivity to what promises to be a tense, negativity-infused couple of months, and I only ask for what people feel comfortable sharing.
Thus, my proposal:
If you want to attend the rally but can't, for whatever reason; if you want to get in on the ground floor of a folk musician's career; or if you just want to be a part of something unusual and kind of cool, complete with rewards for any help you can offer; this project is for you.
How you can help:
- Spread the word. Any word-of-mouth assistance is so unbelievably helpful, and completely free. :)
- Pledge! The tiers for pledges are as follows:
Pledge $10 - Your name in the closing DVD credits
Pledge $20 - Your name, plus a Digital EP of the 5 songs written during the trip
Pledge $30 - Your name, plus a DVD copy of video diary (including footage not seen online)
Pledge $40 - The whole smash
Pledge $50 - The whole smash, personally autographed & numbered
You can pledge in the Comments, or you can send an email to carley[at]carleybaer[dot]com. On or around October 15th, I'll send all the pledgers a link to PayPal where they can securely seal the deal.
Points of note: I've got a couple of radio interviews scheduled at college stations of towns that I'll pass through on my way, and I'm waiting to hear from a few politicians whom I hope to meet when I get there. (Not to mention, I hope to meet up with a lot of interesting, positive folks at the rally. Are you going??? Leave a comment and let's meet up!!)
Well, thank you for reading my little plea. This is shaping up to be the biggest project I've ever undertaken, and I really want to make it fantastic, and that's where you come in. :)
Love & Music,
(and my undying gratitude)
Carley (sea bear)
