Three weeks ago it was suggested those who couldn't attend the rally in Washington might
be able to help those could. Thus started a drive for sponsors which has changed my life forever.
You responded in a massive way and helped
send people from all over the US (and even myself, from the UK!) to the march on 10.2.10!
The coming together for the cause was nothing short of awe inspiring. The members sponsoring and those matching the donations of others, the ones trying to out-donate their fellows, and the ones seemingly trying to be the biggest donor!
It's been a HUGE success story and you all deserve a grand applause! You are the heroes of the day, the week, the month and, if we have anything to say about it, THE ELECTION YEAR!
The following has happened JUST TODAY!
You have donated more than $1400 in sponsors INCLUDING TWO (2) $500 DONATIONS! FAN F**KINGTASTIC!
You've helped webgenie get to the rally from South Carolina!
Hello everyone. I am recently unemployed (two weeks ago for the second time in 3 yrs) and would love to attend the 10-2-10 March in Washington DC. However, I have not yet begun receiving checks for unemployment compensation so I do not have the money right now. If you all could see fit to sponsor my trip it would be greatly appreciated. Nothing I need right now more than a couple of days out of this Red State to commiserate with folks I have more in common with. That would certainly cheer this chick up...you have no idea.
If you select me for sponsorship, my transportation would be by rail from Florence South Carolina. Their is a local Amtrak station so it is no problem for me to board there. I might have sleeping accommodations...would check on that if I am selected
Anyway, whatever you can do to help me would be greatly appreciated. You guys are just awesome
Your fellow Kossack
You've helped cedwynn get to the rally from Oregon!
I am in Portland, OR. I am drawn to attend because numbers matter and this should be historic. And to kick it with awesome kossacks, of course!
A wee bit about me...ummm...west coast, heavy metal, cast-iron hippie chick!
Also, if I can get East, I have a friend who needs help moving, so I would only need a one-way ticket. That's another nugget about me: I'm an East Coast refugee...hahaha!
Thank you so much!
So, what exactly have you done? Well, I'm here to tell ya!
You've helped Geenius at Wrok get to the rally from Illinois!
I'm underemployed as a substitute teacher and have run through much of my savings this summer. I can't REALLY afford to travel anywhere, but I consider this event momentous and imperative. I can get as far as Chicago on my own. From there, I can get on a bus that leaves Friday at 6 PM and returns sometime Sunday morning; I think, but am not sure, that this means I won't need lodging. However, if I do need lodging, that immediately becomes my main concern.
The cost of the bus seat is $125.
Geenius was the instigator of this sponsorship drive! It was their idea. Without that first spark, none of this would ever have happened and there would be no ProgressiveSponsor.com at all.
And I would still be sitting at home yelling impotently at the television rather than planning my homecoming and packing my bags!
THANK YOU GEENIUS AT WROK!
You've helped dkistner get to the rally from Georgia!
I'm a 58-year-old short, dumpy feisty woman, have been to four marches in Washington since 2000 (going by myself, despite family members' fears), and know the drill in terms of taking a bus. I live in Cave Spring, GA (30124), but I could get to Atlanta or Rome to hook up with people. I'd be sure to make a good sign showing I'm from Georgia. I have a nice drum that I can rig to hold a good sign, too.
It seems at the other marches I went to, a whole lot of people were blown away to see somebody from Georgia there. I think a lot of people, even educated progressives, must think we're all complete bible-thumping dumb-ass rednecks down here. I'd love to go be visible.
I do not work and so could do either one of the whirlwind bus trips to march, or I could take longer and go with somebody who is driving and doing the hotel thing. I just don't have any money. I'll also have to make arrangements for a chicken babysitter, but that should not be a problem.
You've helped EdgedInBlue get to the rally from Texas!
I'm a full-time student, in the last semester of my undergrad in Sociology. I've been active in progressive politics since age 16... I was a delegate for Clinton and spent his election night in Little Rock, AR. I'm involved in local GOTV, as well as HFH. I have loads of time cuz all of my classes are on-line this semester. As long as I have a laptop and my wifi, I'm good to go. HOWEVER, I've been unemployed since 10/2009 cuz my car died. I had to move to Texas just to keep afloat, which added another 18 hours onto my degree. I live with a kind and gracious friend and so cannot use what lil I get left over from loanage to make this trip. I'd love to go to the 10.02.2010 march, but don't have alot of extra cash. Help with transportation would be amazing, I think I can manage the accommodations (they have hostels, don't they?). I'm not too worried about going by myself, I've wandered Stockholm, Oslo, Helsinki, London and Portugal myself, surely I can manage the blue line! ;)
So there you have it, my wish is for a bit of transportation to DC to march for something, rather than against it.
Peace out!
You've helped barkingcat get to the rally from California!
I'm unemployed, but mad as hell at the tea baggers and the repugs for all their lies and obstruction. I support President Obama and criticize when necessary and now I want to stand with the (hundreds of) thousands of other progressives to let America know we are not all teabaggers. I want our country to move forward and progress. I want for all Americans to have an equal opportunity and for all of us to live in this world with fairness, justice, peace and liberty. And for those of us who need a helping hand, let us make sure it is there. You never know when you might be the one who needs it next. And it is just the right thing to do.
Anyway, even though I should be conserving my savings to live on until I get work (or survive until social security), I just decided I had to go to the 10.2.10 march in Washington DC. So I have made my flight (from Calif) and hotel reservations and will be there. I humbly ask those who are able to sponsor, if they will help out with my trip expenses. Whatever you can afford, will be appreciated. Thank you!
Thanks DiegoUK for setting up this site for progressives. You are awesome!
PS: I will offer to share my hotel room with someone who needs a place to stay in DC (female please).
You've helped RobRoser get to the rally from Florida!
My wife and I are both unemployed, living on my unemployment and food stamps, We would desperately like to attend the 10-2-10 rally, but there are no buses going from our area and we can't afford all of the transportation costs. We would love to find a ride-share (I'm more than happy to drive our car), or some help with the gas to get us there.
You've helped OPOL get to the rally from Georgia!
My wish is to make it to Washington DC on 10.2.10 along with my son to raise our voices and to participate in street democracy. I hope to produce an extensive photo diary of this historic event. Any help is appreciated.
You've helped juliandomain get to the rally from Oregon!
The best I could find was Greyhound at $ 480 round trip. That would not include food, lodging, or transit in D.C.
You've helped Dude1701 get to the rally from New York!
I'm unemployed and live in Deer Park, NY. I seek to attend the rally on October 2nd, but have no job (hence unemployed) and no money. all i need to get to DC and attend the rally is train fair. I can take my local train station into NYC and take the Amtrak from there to DC, and back. I don't need lodging, mostly because i am not above going to the rally point early and sleeping outside, but if someone has spare floor space it would be appreciated.
alternatively, if someone on Long Island is attending the rally and has room in their car, i would be more than happy to do that instead.
food and water would also be nice, but are optional.
You've helped marabout40 get to the rally from Florida!
Hello! I'd love to go to the DC March, but I've been out of work since February and so I don't have the funds.
I'm looking for accommodations for the 1st and the 2nd (would be happy to sleep on somebody's floor) and a ride from Orlando FL.
You've helped Elliot get to the rally from California!
I'd love to attend, but I'm all the way in Calif., without the means.
And you've helped DiegoUK get to the rally from Northern Ireland!
A displaced American, I would very much like to be able to return again to my country in order to add my voice in support of democracy in the march in Washington DC on 10.2.10!
I have not been able to return to the US over the last 18 years due to my visa status, which left me unable to reenter the country should I ever leave. Though I now have my residency status sorted (Thanks EU! *kiss*) and am no longer an immigration prisoner, I can't afford the airfare costs due to the economy.
Thank you for considering sponsoring us.
And you're STILL helping!
You're helping Kitsap River get to the march from Washington!
I am a dialysis patient on home hemodialysis. I live near Seattle and need to get to the March in DC with my dialysis machine and necessary stuff to use it. So far I have not been able to find a ride so I need to drive there if I am going to get there at all. I am certainly willing to do so and to take another person with me if there is another local person who wants to go. I will need funds for motels, food, gas, parking, tolls, and the like. I have NO money at present and won't have until mid-October, so there is no way I can afford to do it without sponsorship. Please help.
I am a health care for all activist.
You're helping ikorrellim get to the rally from South Carolina!
What: I want to go to 10-2-10.
Where: In Washington, DC
When: 10/2/10
Why: Because I love this country. We are a united nation, built from immigrants, red and yellow, black and white, we are all precious in his site. We must counter the Glen Beck (almost all white attempted take over of The Dream and his preposterous claim of faith. He he was God's child, he would not say the awful things he states on his TV program. He is a dry-drunk who never went to rehab and he acts and talks just like a dry-drunk. George W. Bush was a dry drunk too. That means never had rehabilitation, which is a very important part of recovery and growth.
I can't afford to go. Can someone sponsor me, or can I get a ride?
You're helping aliasalias get to the rally from Washington!
I live in Bellingham Wa. and am on SSI so I can't afford to go to DC. . I drove the lead vehicle of three vans from San Marcos Tx to DC on the march during the Iran Contra fiasco, but now I live up here in the northwest and with people to help with the gas I would drive my 86 Volvo but that's out as my windshield wipers quit working, and for some reason it's been bogging down climbing hills, so that's out.
I will turn 60 on Oct. 2 and I couldn't be spending this birthday any better, I can see and hear from my grandsons (in Canada) on SKYPE regardless of where I am and that's what I would be doing anyway from here. I refused to go to Vietnam and I protested it across the country, so I am a firm believer in citizens speaking truth to power and I hope this march opens Obama's eyes, or reveals them as being open already.
Thanks for your time, and how I found out about this is via Daily Kos where I'm 'aliasalias'. If you had people in this area with a dependable car I would happily be a driver and I am able to drive long distances, plus I can do some repairs if needed along the way ( on the drive to DC from Texas I had to replace a fan belt on one of the vans), so let me know. If not I will be there in spirit. Peace
You've all done it, and done it well! Congratulations!
Keep up the good work!
ProgressiveSponsor.com is currently looking for sponsors for the March in Washington on Oct 2nd, 2010; less than a week from today! You can make a donation through Paypal - a Paypal account is NOT needed.
If you can provide sponsorship or support (no sponsorship is too small, no support too little) for marchers, please consider doing so. A sponsor of as little as $10 goes a long way to drive attendance at Progressive events - your sponsorship makes all the difference. You can sponsor a marcher by going to the PS website and clicking on the Sponsor star. Or click here and give what you can!
The best candidates in the world will never get elected if the electorate is not enthused and empowered to show up at the polls and elect them. The phone calls and door knocks alone will never be enough to invigorate the population to what they see as a lost cause due to a perceived lack of popular support. Please, help us be that visible show of popular support. I plead for you to help us to be those supporting voices and start that movement on the cry of NOT AGAIN! Not again will we allow bigotry, hate and intolerance to tarnish our nation.
In the politics of today the loudest voice is all that is heard. Please help us be that loudest voice. That voice of progressivism! In the words of President Obama, if we do not act then failure is guaranteed.
We ask you - please help us act. click here and give what you can before we are out of time!
Remember: a little from a lot of people is still a lot! We CAN make this happen for everyone and leave no one behind. Just because you can't make it doesn't mean a part of you can't be there!
Please click here now and give what you can!
NOTICE: we are in need of accommodation for marchers! If you have a spare couch please make a support offer on ProgressiveSponsor.com
