Just kicking off a LIVE blog from Oakland here. Please join in.
the BREAKING NEWS is at around 6pm a PG&E 16-24 inch gas pipe broke in a very densely populated neighborhood of San Bruno, California just immediately south of San Francisco on the Pennisula here very near SFO (San Francisco International Airport) off 101.
The blast is the most intense seen in the Bay Area since the Oakland Hill fire. Though they and circumstances other than looks are not similar. Ther appears to be at least 25-50 homes maybe completely incenerate and local hospital reports of filled emergency rooms. Early in the disaster it has been confirmed that civilians were asked to surrender the cars (keys) so injured to be immediately to to hospitals.
Here is a link to very good local LIVE TV coverage.

Sorry no time to check spelling right now - will clean up later. Any Kossacks in that San Bruno Area?
