Republicans hate unions for several reasons. Working people organizing to put the brakes on corporate abuses would have to be number one. But union support of Democratic candidates is a very close second.
Today, Wisconsin State Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald, speaking on Fox News, was astonishingly honest about the role that second motivation has played in his ally Scott Walker's attempt to eliminate collective bargaining for public employees.
If we win this battle, and the money is not there under the auspices of the unions, certainly what you’re going to find is President Obama is going to have a much difficult, much more difficult time getting elected and winning the state of Wisconsin.
Close observers of Republicans know that's how they think. But it's rare to see one drop the spin and just blurt out the truth publicly, even to a friendly interviewer like Megyn Kelly. Maybe it's because Fitzgerald is feeling the pressure of an engaged and enraged citizenry and a serious recall effort against several of his fellow Republican senators.
