Wisconsin Republicans are going all-in on their strategy to run fake Democrats in the recall elections. In the process, they are producing some awesome quotes.
Take, for example, Otto Junkermann. He's an 82 year-old former Republican state Assembly member who the GOP has recruited to run in the Democratic primary against Nancy Nusbaum:
Asked if he was a so-called “spoiler candidate,” Junkermann said: “I don’t know how I could avoid being considered that.”
Great message discipline!
Here's a good one from the current Republican Party official they recruited to run in the Democratic primary against Jennifer Shilling:
"I want to bring light on the issue that 22,000 signatures can pretty much overturn an election where even the loser got 40,000 votes," he said Tuesday.
The thing that sucks about recall elections is that those elections might result in different people getting elected. Why aren't more people talking about this?
Republican state Senate leader Scott Fitzgerald has a couple of beauties:
Fitzgerald said he was not worried running fake Democrats would engender cynicism among voters.
"I think the cynicism comes from the recalls," Fitzgearld said. "Recalling senators for taking a tough vote is just wrong."
People get cynical when there are elections for things like state Senator, not when state Senators say it's wrong they should have to face election again.
Fitzgerald isn't done, either:
He also said holding the recall elections were costly for taxpayers. By forcing primaries with fake candidates, those costs will only climb.
It's terrible that taxpayers have to pay for an election. Which is exactly why we're going to make them pay for two.
