No Democrat should support the debt ceiling "compromise deal" that is emerging from the secret, so-called negotiations in Washington. Period. If the final version looks, sounds, smells, or acts anything like what is being reported, Democrats in the House of Representatives should kill it by withholding their support on the final House vote. And they should make sure that it's good and dead before they go home for the night. Barack Obama wants bipartisanship, and now he can have it - in the form of Progressive/Tea Party opposition to this bill.
What about the pending federal default, you ask? I for one have complete confidence in Barack Obama's ability to figure that out - after he is robbed of the chance to shove this excrement sandwich of a deal down our throats. He's got plenty of other options, most of which he's pretending that he doesn't have. If Obama doesn't like (or if his boss, Tim Geithner, won't give him permission to use) those options, maybe the ghost of Ronald Reagan will whisper some sage advice into his ear in the middle of the night. Given the chance, Obama might even remember that another one of his favorite Republicans, Abraham Lincoln, was not so afraid of a constitutional challenge to Presidential authority that he was willing to let the nation be destroyed. Whatever.
He will figure it out in the end... but only when and if he has no other choice. Don't give Barack Obama another choice. Once upon a time he asked us to hold his feet to the fire. OK then House Democrats: Kill his deal.
