While we did not achieve our goal in the Wisconsin recall elections on Tuesday,
our performance is nothing to hang our heads over.
That might change if, this coming Tuesday, Republican Kim Simac is able to knock off one of the Wisconsin 14, Democratic incumbent Jim Holperin. Simac is a hardcore tea partier who organized the recall against Holperin, and who thinks public schools are like Nazi Germany. She is also a straight-up embarrassment who has no idea what is happening in the Wisconsin state senate:
"What specific legislation is moving through the Capitol right now that you look forward to - if elected - supporting or challenging?" asked the moderator during a forum on WRJO-FM (94.5) in Eagle River.
After asking for the question to be read a second time, Simac then responded:
"Hmm, well, I think that . . . I guess I would have to say that with all of the things that I've been looking at, I think you just stumped me. All the things I've been looking at for all the last couple months here trying to get up on board as a new candidate, I've been trying to stay up with the issues, but I would have to say that I can't name you a single one right now."
If we lose to someone like that, I'm going to significantly downgrade my outlook on Tuesday's results.
She could really win, too. While Holperin's district is a bit more Democratic than the districts we face on Tuesday, it still slightly leans Republican overall. I'd be very surprised if Holperin was ahead by double digits, if he is ahead at all.
We were able to send a strong message on Tuesday, and let's make sure we are still able to send that message next week. Help GOTV for the final two recalls with the Democratic Party of Wisconsin.
