I'll let this speak for itself. From the Huffington Post:
Rep. Louis Gohmert (R-Texas) recently signaled his intention to submit a piece of legislation that would make exceptions to a number of firearms laws by allowing members of Congress to carry guns in D.C. and even into the Capitol building, including the chamber floors.
Bwah????
There has certainly been a rush to introduce new legislation in the wake of Tucson tragedy, from John King's strange and largely unenforceable ban to carry firearms to First Amendment busting legislation introduced by Robert Brady.
But this!...
this is pure insanity. Firearms onto the floor of the Houses of Representatives? For what possible purpose could that serve, entry into the Capitol is already highly guarded, metal detectors and such, so what in the world could a gun on the floor hope to accomplish. That this would be the thinking after the tragedy from this weekend is beyond my comprehension. Who thinks like this???
It is a maddening mindset that seems to think that MORE guns will solve our problems and reduce the Tucsons and Fort Hoods. The idea that if everyone is armed to the teeth then mentally unstable nutjobs will somehow not be inclined to do crazy things. It makes no sense.
So I would ask the idiotic Congressman Gohmert, why?
Simply enough...Why do you need a gun on the House floor?
