Back on July 13th, an ophthalmologist accidentally injured my cornea. I developed recurrent corneal erosion, which means your cornea is prone to suffering erosions (like scrapes), and they hurt like hell, and really mess up your vision, sometimes permanently.
I've had a gazillion doctors' appointments, spent lots of money on over-the-counter eye meds (they're very expensive), co-pays, parking ($22 at Wills Eye in Philly), been numbed and Flouresced and been given bandaging lenses that weren't my prescription and floated out of my eye, had a spinechilling and agonizing procedure called a scrape & burr that didn't really work, had a plug put into my tear duct, and all this time every few days or weeks my cornea would erode.
It hurts. A lot. Enough to make you double over and scream. Enough to keep you from doing anything except holding your hand over your eye. Enough to make driving unthinkable and reading impossible. Handicrafts? Forget it. Amazing photosensitivity and light effects. My work has been very difficult.
Well, slowly, it has stabilized. The scarring from the procedure is done healing. I haven't had an erosion in about a month.
I saw the eye doctor today. He gave me a prescription for glasses. The condition is recurrent; it may come back. I may spend a lot of money on glasses in the future.
But I wanted to take this chance to thank you all for your constant support. Comments, emails, a certain beautiful quilt, all helped so much.
