There is very little chance that I will be watching the State of the Union address this week. For my top 10 reasons why not, read on.
- It’s too long.
- Especially with the sanctimonious post-speech punditry.
- It is tiresome political theater utterly devoid of intrinsic meaning.
- The acrimonious, adversary nature of politics is repulsive and all too evident.
- Living in DC, and working where I do, there’s just no relief from this stuff.
- The "insider lobbyist bingo" game of "There! He said our sentence!" is just plain silly.
- It bears almost no relationship to the lives of real people I know who are not involved in politics, and it doesn’t change a thing.
- Been there, done that.
- There’s usually basketball on.
- It’s just too damn depressing.
