Kansas approves 7.5 percent cut in pay for State Employees
The Kansas House Budget Committee - feeling their oats - have approved a proposal to cut state workers pay across the board - all university, agencies and state office positions - to the tune of 7.5%.
Topeka — The House budget-writing committee on Tuesday approved a proposal that would cut state employee salary and wage expenditures by 7.5 percent.
Under the proposal by state Rep. Pete DeGraaf, R-Mulvane, the reductions would occur during the last six pay periods of the current fiscal year, which ends June 30.

Brownback had previously appointed Steve Anderson - recently released from the grasping maw of the Koch Brothers - as state budget director. That move, coupled with today's action in the House, are a sure sign that Brownback is going to ride the 'austerity wave', and by extension Kansas, into the bloody, bloody ground.
While this proposal allows agencies to handle how they will apportion these cuts, either by furlough or varying gradation of payroll decreases by workers, this will be a staggering if not lethal blow to some state employees, many of whom are not highly paid. At least Brownback and other appointed state officials are included in this cut. Because undoubtedly, they will feel the hammer blow just as hard.....not
Disclaimer: I am not a State of Kansas employee, but I do work in a social service field that requires daily contact with them. The state workers I work with are underpaid, generally overworked and give everything they have, everyday to assist others.
