Just make him wait in line for it. You know, like immigrants are supposed to do? Explain to him you'll get to it right after you've cleared the 200 or so bills passed through the House last Congress on a straight out up or down vote & the who knows how many judicial & administrative appointments that have been buried under secret holds & other political machinations. Yep, right after you clear all that up, he can have his up or down vote on the "cute little bunny & baby chickie mangling health reform bill," or whatever they're calling it now.
I, for one, would enjoy a public debate over some of this legislation. I'd love to hear the Republican rationale for the U.S. government's subsidizing of the outsourcing of American jobs. The transparency legislation is another I'd love to hear debated. Will the Republicans go all Colonel Jessup in their objection to the public knowing where all the money is coming from to finance their hit pieces?
So please Mr. Reid, let them get in line with their oh so important legislation. They get the whole "in line" thing. They like it. Lines are important to them. I'm sure they'll agree to up or down votes on everything they've found ways to avoid for the past two years because the latest & greatest legislation is just that important. What with things being so civil & bipartisany, sure they'll agree to this small concession.
