In today's pundit round-up posted by Meteor Blades, the first article posted is "What Ails the Black Body Politic?" In the article, the authors poses the question, why are Black Democratic voters not as disappointed in President Obama (evidenced by our 90% approval rating and a 16% unemployment figure). On the other hand white Democrats are far less satisfied with President Obama with a 36% approval rating and 8% unemployment.
So why must the frame be that the white Democratic voters are the norm or in other words, why isn't the question..."What Ails the White Body Politic?"
Now, I don't want to pin this on MB in entirety because I don't know who decides what is posted. But I object to the posting of this simplistic and divisive analysis.
First, Black unemployment is pretty much always twice white unemployment.
Second, Black approval tends to be higher than white approval of Democratic elected officials.
Third, if the situation was reversed and there was a white President, no one would give a damn if blacks had a higher approval rating under similar circumstances. Bill Clinton is evidence. There was not as much ink wasted on black higher levels of approval for Clinton back when he was the President.
Fourth, so the supposed lack of agitation towards this President is not unique or new among black voters.
I'm just a little surprised to see this type of crap on the front page and then people wonder why so many AAs are leaving this blog.
Continuing the meme that "reverse racism" is at play is not helpful. I mean time after time, whites and blacks view things differently. What's new about us viewing the President differently as we viewed Kerry and Clinton differently. This is the same crap the Republicans used to say until others took the mantle up...you know they are only voting for him because he is black has now become...they are only supporting him because he is black. Was problematic when Republicans did it and it is problematic now!
If you don't mind, please stop trying to bludgeon us and this President with our race. We don't like it, it is reminiscent of the Southern Strategy, and it needs to stop.
And MB, as you said so yourself the other day, what we say in mixed company may not be how we truly feel! So, I'm a little shocked and stunned that a link to an article such as this would be under your moniker!
